What are Epoxy Resins ?
The
Epoxy Resins are actually poly-ether resins which consist of one or
more epoxy groups. They are thermosetting resins, which are created by
converting liquid poly-ether into solid by process called "Curing". The
curing process is done trough application of heat. Generally the Epoxy
resins contains two parts, mainly resins and hardener; when these two
are mixed, an active chemical reaction cures the material.
Properties of Epoxy Resins
- Available in diverse forms ranging from low viscosity liquids to high melting solids
- Offers high strength and low Shrinkage.
- High heat resistance and mechanical strength.
- Unmatched adhesion to various substrates.
- Improved resistance to solvents and chemicals.
- Low cost and low toxicity.
- Effective electrical and mechanical insulation.
Applications of Epoxy Resins
The Epoxy Resins are used in wide areas of application owing to its beneficial properties
- Paints and Coatings
- Adhesives
- Construction industry
- Industrial tooling and Composites
- Electrical systems and Electronics
- Consumer and Marine applications
- Aerospace applications
- Biological applications
